Everything you need to know when you hire a live jukebox band

If you’re looking to hire a live jukebox band, these FAQs cover the practical questions we’re asked most often, from song requests and timings to setup, power, insurance and bookings. For a fuller explanation of the request-led show format, see how The Live Jukebox Band works.

What is a live jukebox band?

A live jukebox band is an interactive live band where your guests choose the songs and the band performs them live. The Live Jukebox Band uses a simple QR code request system so your audience can help shape the set list during the event.

How does it work on the night?

Guests scan the QR code on our banner, browse the live song list and send their requests to the band. We then build those choices into the live set while keeping the show flowing naturally. You can read the full step-by-step explanation on our how it works page.

Do guests have to sing?

No. The Live Jukebox Band is not karaoke and your guests do not need to come on stage. They choose the songs, and our six-piece band performs them live with male and female lead vocals.

Is this the same as live karaoke, bandeoke or rockaoke?

No. With live karaoke, bandeoke or rockaoke, guests sing with the band. With The Live Jukebox Band, guests choose the songs and the band sings them. It is ideal if you want interactive live entertainment without asking your guests to perform.

Is this the same as a normal covers band?

No. A normal covers band usually performs a fixed set list chosen in advance. The Live Jukebox Band is more interactive because your guests choose songs from the live set list, and the band shapes the performance around those requests.

What kind of events are you suitable for?

The Live Jukebox Band is ideal for corporate events, conferences, staff parties, awards nights, weddings, hotels, nightclubs, festivals, universities, student unions, birthdays and private parties. It works especially well when you want the energy of a live band with a more interactive, crowd-led format.

Where do you travel to?

We’re based in the South of the UK and regularly perform across the UK, including London, the Midlands and the North. We can also travel to Europe and beyond for the right event. If you tell us your venue postcode, we’ll confirm availability and travel costs.

What songs can guests choose from?

Guests can choose from our large live set list, covering decades of well-known songs for weddings, corporate events, festivals and private parties. The repertoire includes party classics, rock favourites, pop songs, singalong anthems and dance floor favourites.

Can we see the song list before booking?

Yes. You can view our song list before booking so you can see the kind of music your guests will be able to choose from.

Can we choose songs in advance?

Yes. If there are songs you definitely want included, or songs you would rather avoid, tell us before the event. We can help shape the available request list around your audience, timings and the atmosphere you want to create.

Can guests request songs on the night?

Yes. That is the whole idea. Guests use the QR code to choose from the live set list during the event, and we work those requests into the show. It gives your guests a fun way to take part without putting anyone under pressure to perform.

What if someone requests a song that isn’t on your list?

The QR code request system is built around our live repertoire, so guests choose from songs the band already knows and can perform properly. If you have must-have songs that are not currently listed, the best option is to request them in advance when you book and we’ll confirm what’s possible.

How long do you perform for?

Most events work well with two live sets, but timings can be adapted depending on your schedule, venue access and event format. Tell us your ideal running order and we’ll recommend the best option.

Can you provide background music or a DJ-style playlist between sets?

Yes. We can usually provide suitable background or playlist music around the live performance. If you need a more involved DJ-style service, tell us what you have in mind and we’ll include the right option in your quote.

Can you play a first dance?

If you are booking us for a wedding and have a first dance in mind, tell us the song as early as possible. We’ll confirm whether we can perform it live or suggest the best way to include it in the evening.

Our venue has a noise limiter. Can you work with that?

Yes. We’re used to venues with sound restrictions and noise limiters and can adjust our setup and levels accordingly. If your venue regularly hosts live bands, it’s normally straightforward. If you have limiter details or a dB limit, send them over and we’ll advise.

What do you bring with you?

We can supply everything needed for a professional live show, including PA and lighting. We also carry a haze machine where suitable, and we do not use pyrotechnics. All equipment is PAT-tested and we have Public Liability Insurance.

How much space do you need?

As a guide, we’re a six-piece band, so a stage or clear performance area is best. If space is tight, tell us the approximate stage size, ideally width x depth, and we’ll confirm what’s workable for your venue.

What power do you need?

Most events work well with standard, reliable mains power. Ideally we’ll have access to separate circuits for audio and lighting, but don’t worry if you’re not sure. Tell us what the venue can provide and we’ll advise.

How long do you take to set up and soundcheck?

The setup time is typically 90 minutes, but it can vary depending on access, stage layout and production requirements. We’ll always agree an arrival time with you and the venue so everything is ready before the performance starts.

Can you perform outdoors?

Yes, as long as the band and equipment are fully covered from rain and direct sun, and there’s safe access to power. If you’re planning an outdoor event, tell us the setup and we’ll confirm requirements.

Is there anything you need from the venue?

The main things are safe access for loading, a suitable performance area, power, and any venue rules such as sound limits, curfew or access times. Parking nearby is a big help, so if it’s restricted, let us know in advance.

Are you insured?

Yes, we carry Public Liability Insurance, and our equipment is PAT-tested. Insurance documents can be supplied to the venue if required.

How do bookings and payments work?

Once you’re happy with the quote, we’ll confirm the details in writing and take a booking deposit to secure the date. The remaining balance is due before the event, and we’ll confirm timings on your invoice or booking confirmation.

Can you help us choose the best package?

Absolutely. Tell us your venue, guest numbers, timings and the kind of atmosphere you want, and we’ll recommend the best-value option with clear pricing and no hidden agency fees because you’re booking direct.
